Department of Conservation – Nurturing the Paparoa Track

Formerly known as the Pike Memorial Great Walk, the Paparoa Track serves as a poignant tribute to the 29 men who tragically lost their lives in the Pike River Mine disaster. The Department of Conservation (DOC) sought our assistance to ensure the successful establishment of this significant track, now aptly named the Paparoa Track.

The Initial Challenge: A Fitting Tribute

The challenge was to initiate and oversee the Paparoa Track project effectively. This walk holds immense historical and emotional significance, commemorating the lives lost in the Pike River Mine disaster.

Our Strategic Approach: Navigating Funding and Governance

Our journey began in Hokitika, where we collaborated with the delivery team to secure funding from the Crown for the Paparoa Track. We played a pivotal role in crafting cabinet papers for the Minister of Conservation, securing the necessary financial support for the project.

Moreover, our responsibilities extended to the oversight of the project throughout the design and go-to-market phases. To ensure project success, we established robust governance structures and implemented essential project delivery disciplines.
